Meet Barbara Maher
Barbara Maher is a lifelong baker and the creator of Queen of Scones. A graduate of the United States Naval Academy and former active duty Marine Corps officer, she later earned a master's degree in education and taught mathematics. Her love of baking, family, faith and tradition eventually inspired Queen of Scones—a cookbook created to share the art of scone baking and pass on its traditions from one generation to the next.
For Barbara, baking has always been about more than what comes from the oven. Rooted in faith, she sees hospitality as a way of caring for others—welcoming family and friends to the table, celebrating life's special moments, and sharing the gifts God has given her. For her, the kitchen has long been a place where faith, creativity, and hospitality come together in the simple joy of serving others.
Why I Wrote Queen of Scones
This cookbook was created especially with my grandchildren in mind. My greatest hope is that, years from now, they will open these pages, recognize familiar recipes, hear my voice in the instructions, and continue the traditions we have shared together. If they one day bake these same scones for their own families, then this book will have fulfilled its purpose.
